Rajat Subhra Bandopadhyay

An arts graduate from Govt College of Arts & Crafts (GCAC), Kolkata (1990) Rajat did his debut show in 1994 at Chitra Kala Parishad, Bangalore. In 1986, he was chosen under the Young Artists Category for a West Bengal Government project by Tathya Kendra, Kolkata.

In 1996, he was a part of a group show in New Delhi at The Art Konsult gallery. After spending close to two decades in advertising, Rajat has now returned to his favorite passion of water colors and has been successfully exhibiting his works through solo and group shows in Delhi, Jaipur, Bhopal and Chandigarh.

He set out on this renewed art journey in August 2011 with his first solo show ‘Relate’ for 21 days at The Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi that was a joyous and optimistic ensemble of trees, temples and landscapes. His ensemble of abstracts in mixed media and watercolours ‘Universal Truths’ was a part of the group show at a provate gallery in Delhi in September last year. Rajat was invited by art veterans in Chandigarh to exhibit ‘Resonance’, an experimental collection of mixed media at Chandigarh Kala Bhawan in December 2011. He participated in the International Mask festival 2011 wherein over 300 contemporary artists spread across India had designed masks showcasing different cultures, ideologies and traditions as a way to celebrate human existence. In January 2012, he was one of the upcoming artists to be featured in ‘C’est La Vie’ winter art festival at Epicentre, Gurgaon.

Rajat was one of the shortlisted winners at the ‘100 years of the City of Delhi’ held in 2012 at All India Fine Arts & Crafts Society (AIFACS), New Delhi.

Water colour remains his forte and he likes to capture the nature, landscapes and environment at its best through his work. He has always been attracted towards water colour which is considered to be one of the most challenging mediums to indulge in.  His love and respect for nature has never wavered, so it was only natural for him to begin dabbling in painting landscape.

Rajat hopes that his creations will pull the viewer in to feel the same awe and fascination that he does when he sees nature in person.

He has traveled all over the world with his creative talent.
