Mikhail Starchenko AWS


Mikhail is Russian artist/illustrator and AWS signature member with an artistic focus on hyperrealism in watercolor.

Mikhail was born in Ulianovsk also known as Lenin's birthplace is located on the Volga river, the largest river in Russia.

Mikhail received his art education at Zagorsk Industrial Art & Design college as Industrial designer for 3 years where started his career as a free-lance artist/illustrator.

In 1989 Mikhail’s was a winner of MTV's poster contest that had more than 35,000 entries. Mikhail’s poster "My Generation" was chosen for the Moscow Music Peace Festival; a huge Rock show with bands Gorky Park, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Ozzy Osbourne, Scorpions, Skid Row, Cinderella among others.

After working as industrial designer for a few years, Mikhail focused on his career as a free-lance artist/illustrator. Mikhail was the art director and created airbrush posters in advertising, for movies and celebrities.

In 2014 Mikhail returned to watercolor with a focus on hyperrealism in watercolor. Mikhail’s paintings are a symphony of transparent colors, detail and patience. Each piece of artwork takes 250 – 800 hours to complete for his complex hyperrealistic artworks. 

2021 became American Watercolor Society (AWS) signature member.
