Jocelyne Chauveau
Draftswoman and watercolorist french painter, Jocelyne Chauveau presents a diversified work, because it is all forms of living that interest her, and Nature is for her an inexhaustible source of inspiration: wild nature, tamed nature, human nature, living nature… And the suggestive power or watercolour seemed her to be the best way to translate the forms-color rhythms and harmonies, like in music, to obtain this sort of concentrate between the idea and the gesture, between the concept and the form it gives to it, with a minimum of gestures on the surface paper, to reach the magical fusion of water and pigments on paper, its softness, its poetry. In the 1990s, with the meeting of masters such as J.-L. Morelle, Cao-Bei-An, R. Palmaerts and M.-L. Montécot, her technical approaches broadened and served the desired effect.
Jocelyne Chauveau lives and works in Paris, after a childhood in the Center of France, where she was born, close to nature. She firstly studied classical languages (latin and greek) at university, before turning to Art history and archeology (Master in contemporary art in Paris I-Sorbonne). Later, working in literature and edition, she will tackle artistic creation at the Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris, in the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and the Académie de Port-Royal, where she deepened her work on live models. For thirty years her plastic research revolves essentially around light. As an impressionnism lover, she is passionate about their work of destructuring light, going as far as abstraction with Monet. Light which builds the masses and destroys the contours of the forms and which unifies atmosphere, making navigate between concrete and abstract, between visible and invisible, between recognizable and unrecognizable.
She has been taking part in many watercolor or generalist exhibitions, both in France and internationally (Japan, Canada, United States, Greece, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy), where she has been regularly distinguished for more than twenty years. She often performs portraits on live model in public demonstrations and is also a workshop instructor. In 2014, she received the Vermeil medal from the City of Paris.
She exhibits regularly her work in Parisian galleries (Polonceau Gallery, Gallery 43) and in the provinces (Avignon, Saint-Amand-Montrond) or ephemeral places (GMAC Bastille, Chatou…). She is a member of the Taylor Foundation and the Cercle des Gobelins et des beaux-arts.
